I whole-heartedly recommend Ms. Nancy Berger as an English tutor. She worked with my son (a rising 9th grader) during the summer of 2022 to present (via videoconference).

Although my son was dreading summer tutoring, Ms. Berger’s engaging personality, detailed lesson plans and interesting mix of assignments made the lessons fun and engaging. In fact, he really enjoyed the lessons, and we extended our tutoring through the end of summer and plan to continue tutoring with Ms. Berger this fall.

In my experience, she is a rare gem with her infinite patience and ability to draw children out of their shell. My son learned a lot of new vocabulary words, refined his writing skills and also now reads for deeper understanding as a result of the tutoring. Ms. Berger also worked with him on PSAT verbal skills. After the summer, he reports that he is much more confident about his writing abilities and is grateful for the opportunity to work with Ms. Berger.

As a parent of three kids who has utilized many tutors in the past, I found Ms. Berger amongst the best. She was extremely effective, despite the fact that tutoring was provided via videoconference. My son and Ms. Berger were able to form a strong connection, and he was extremely engaged throughout. I also appreciate that Ms. Berger was extremely responsive to emails and schedule changes.

She is generally delightful to work with. Further, because my son was so engaged with his reading and assignments, I found myself reading some of the books he read, which helped me better connect with my son. Finally, Ms. Berger is great at providing feedback and updates to the parents and is always open to communicating with parents.
